A rather belated reply to Dean Cross' post, I quote Dean:-
"Sorry guys, for me aileron usage during departure from controlled flight is only an emergency recovery technique after the standard recovery has failed. The only time I had a nasty neither/nor spin was when I performed the airline pilots entry,"gently does it, no full positive application of anything, that might get me into trouble!"
If it will not go in using elevator and rudder alone, it is a rogue, and should be treated with caution!"
I recently came across a publication "Pilots Notes fo CHIPMUNK T10", prepared by direction of the Minister of Supply, A.P. 4308A
dated February1950
In PartII -Handling Section35 Spining (iv) it states,
"Entry into the spin can usually be facillitated by applying opposite aileron to the direction in which it is intended to spin, in addition to the normal control movement at the point of stall".
Admittedly the preceeding paragraph (v) refers to the tendency of the Chipmunk to enter a stalled spiral dive rather than a true spin and the use of aileron is suggested as an aid to overcome reluctance to enter a spin.
