Courtesy of Mr. Alan B. Carlaw, a dear friend and founder of Squadron Prints Ltd, a couple of Chipmunk piccies in the good old days. There are more to follow later, but I have stacks of pictures to go through...

Leuchars airshow 1965:

And two from the East Lowlands UAS, also photographed at Leuchars, but during the 1973 air show:

Hope you like them!

Cheers, Berry

Greg,

The Andover in picture 3 is a Fokker F-27, operated by the Royal Netherlands Air Force.

You're welcome. They have been out of service for a while now. Got a fair few hours 'hanging' in those horrible 'seats' in the back flying back and forwards to RAF airfields from Volkel AFB in the Netherlands.

hmm, sounds like a tail or two could be told about those times. any pics?. also, is there any truth in the rumors that the F27 display pilot actually rolled the aircraft at a few shows untill he got told it was beyond the aircrafts capabilities?. i saw some displays but can't remember him rolling it, just rather steep wingovers where he became almost inverted.

cheers.

I really don't know Greg. Must say that I haven't actually seen the display that many times (unfortunately).

You are right, there some stories to tell. I remember going to Honington for a rotation with 13 Sqn, but one of our jets got u/s at Yeovilton. Straight back in the F27 onwards to Yeovilton to work our nuts off to get the Hydrazine purged. Missed the welcome party at Honington but stayed the night in Yeovilton Officers Mess (as NCO). Arranged a Sea King to take us back to Honington the next day, but our HQ told us to cancel this because of another F27 was due to pick us up... pitty. Several 4 hrs trips to Lossiemouth as well (both F27 and F70). Leeming was another one...
