I bet nobody can answer this one......Magnetos

( Im sure somebody can )

AG4/10 Mag bodies are handed.. and the way I tell is the internal casting pattern....( Fingers from left or right )

I have some new bodies  and notice some of them have two extra little slots about half an inch long.....the slots are located almost either side of the main brush ..the 90 degree one that connects the armature slip ring to the main half speed wheel shaft.....( into the distributor) ......what the hell are those two slots for and why only some bodies have them....??

I have seen them also and thought they are ventilation for the slip ring area.  I presume that any sparking in that area would also produce the weak nitric acid associated with all sparking and this was a way of ventilating it.
The other plus is that it enables you to view the brush and slip ring and ensure that the brush is sitting centrally on the copper portion and not rubbing on the cheeks.

The ones I have seen are slightly curved.  Is that what you are seeing?
