i never flew in a Chipmunk from Fenton, though i have flown from there in a C47. i first set eyes on a Chipmunk at Fenton though at the SSAFA airshow there. and somewhere i may still have the photo's i took that day. and i definitly took one of the Chipmunk. i think this was around 1976 ish. unfortunatly i don't know the reg of the Chipmunk though but it stuck in my mind as i went to the model stores and tried to find one. couldn't and went to my local model shop in search for one the following week. was out of luck there too but the Airfix rep happened to be there and he sorted one out for me within a week. wish i still had that model too but it has gone in the midst of time.
My first Chipmunk flight was from RAF Brawdy in Pembrokshire to RAF st Davids, second ever flight in an aircraft and the first time i ever wore a 'mae west' and remember the dire warnings about not inflating this whilst still strapped into the aircraft. apparently the RAF would be rather annoyed about damage to the aircraft whilst dragging dead cadets out of the cockpit!!!

thanks for the memories.

I'm about three years late posting this! I was on 151 RN EFTS Course at Church Fenton from July to November 1970.

Stewart Smith and I did a total of 8 trips in WD390 with former (mostly) and current YUAS students. Some of them were noticeably better looking than others. Especially Lucy, who was lucky enough to fly with Stewart. WD390 was formerly based at Fenton with No 9 AEF. We were using Rwy 34 R/H, which gave me the opportunity to admire the Spitfire revetments before completing my preflight vital actions. I'm easily pleased!
