Perth - Scone 12th of May
« on: Sunday May 13, 2007, 17:27:39 UTC »
Well, it is all over again! The Caledonian Chipmunks met up with the Flying Group at Perth airfield for their annual get together and to get their display authorisations for the Chipmunks and Nord. Although the weather was not superb, all Chipmunk flying could still go ahead. Unfortunately, the Tiger stayed under cover most of the day and was only dragged out to be prepared for the flight back up north. Congratulations to the new and re-validated display pilots for the 2007 season! We can't wait to see the display many a time. It was good to see Murray, Keith, Tony and David again and we are glad some of you got to get airborne. Also thanks to all at Perth Airfield for their very kind hospitality, services and most enjoyable food from the Touchdown Cafe and the Aviatior restaurant. John and Steve, sorry you could not stay any longer due to the weather, but I'm sure we will be able to meet up again soon! Thanks for the kind gifts. Most enjoyable after a hard days work  :-o It was nice to see the Chipmunk families, including the three (and not forgetting 'bump') young future pilots. Last but not least, a thanks to our own RAF's 56 Squadron for their superb fly-past for the National Young Aviators Day

Okay, enough talking, please find some of the pictures below.

RAF in action:

Did three Chipmunks attend, or was it only two and a half...

Small meets large:

First formation display get's airborne:

New manoeuvre for the 2007 season, formation loop:

And the 'bottom' of the formation loop (with optical illusion):

And finally Chipmunks line astern:

Nord during up for some fly-pasts:

Dirty pass:

'Photo pass' showing of the lovely top side:

And that's it from me. Bring on the next event! If anybody has some more pictures, please feel free to add!

Regards, Berry

Don't know where you had time to photograph the action, thanks for running the flightline like clockwork.
I believe you worked harder than the flyboys.
Great pics

Just a couple I took of Dave and Murray getting to know the Chipmunk again. I don't know how long it was since Murray last flew in one but I think it was 37 years since Dave last flew in WP857 during his training at Church Fenton.

Dave ready to go:

and Murray likewise:

Looking forward to next year!

Another superb set of pictures that really capture the whole atmosphere of the weekend!  All we need to do for next year is make sure the YAK is not down south!!

Well done to all and a huge thank you to all the guys at Perth, our support team, families and friends.  Finally a big thank you to our Evaluator......Mr Macallan!  :-D :-D :-D

Many thanks to all who participated in and welcomed us to Scone 2007. The hospitality and 'crack' were excellent and it made the freezing which Steve and I endured on the way down on Friday very worthwhile. We apologise to everyone for leaving so soon on Saturday but with the very unpredictable w/x situation discretion ruled over valour as we didn't want to get trapped had the forecast strong winds, rain and lightning set about us on Sunday. We skirted the western edge of the Aberdeen zone on a SVFR clearance at 1700 ft through a few 'letter boxes' and got soaked during the last 5 minutes with Shempston in sight (almost) Apologies to all to whom I had intended giving a flight in the Tiger - your day will come next year, I hope, or if you are to be in the Elgin area please let me know.

Gill and Berry - the patches are excellent, Declan, Duncan and Dave - many thanks for the amber nectar, Jim - your tales and reminiscences of our Aberdeen College days and characters was very amusing, all at Perth for food, drink, great company and more happy experiences. Third time lucky for it all to come together for us next year.

Happy landings to you all,

John F.

I did that Declan and my sincere thanks to your lads for them. I've shown the postcards to Steve who is also very impressed. Your boys do you both proud Declan and I hope your engineering skills are not taxed too much with the assembly of your their Chipmunks!
All the best for now. John F.
