Islay 2007
« on: Thursday August 16, 2007, 20:49:01 UTC »
Hi all,

The team will be flying at Islay 2007, our final programmed airshow of the 2007 season.

Hopefully the weather gods will be kind to us as we plan to have both Chipmunks, the Yak and the Nord all flying displays this year!

I know that Islay is well out of the way for most of our members, but we hope to bring you some lovely shots of the day courtesy of our usual photographic suspects!

Cheers,
Duncan

Well done on Islay yesterday. Compensated very nicely for that wind! I enjoyed the Chipmunk displays in particular.

Sounded as though I almost got in your way on the return leg though.... :-D

Thank you!  :-D

It was an excellent day out and was good to meet the newest Scottish Chipmunk "soloist"!

Although I only got a glimpse of you on return during turns, I am guessing the formation leader (in the YAK)had you in his sights!   :-D

Finally! I've only just found some time to edit some pictures to share this excellent day out. I had never been to this part of Scotland before (Campbletown being the nearest I had been to) and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Wonderful photographic opportunities and some good flying during the day. It was also nice to meet some old friends and to make some new. All in all a superb day to end the display season. Some pictures to re-live the day:

About 20 minutes into the journey we came across – exactly as planned (over Gigha) - our two Chipmunks. Two future pilots are just visible in the back seats.

Not to long after that the formation went ‘feet dry’ again over Islay.

To be welcomed by two more Chipmunks already on the ground:

Due to the limited space I had to travel light and the long lenses had to stay at home. Therefore, unfortunately, no pictures of the flying displays. Some other aircraft (in military colours) on the ground were the SE5, three Austers and the 'Messerschmitt'.

Far to soon the day was over again and just like many of the attendees today, we to had to pleasure of some late afternoon sun for our flight home.

Like I said at the start of this post: a fabulous day out and many thanks to the organisers for putting on this very friendly event. Although small scale compared to the many military shows I attend during the year I thoroughly enjoyed the day. Being out side in a beautiful sun shine, looking after some aircraft, little bit of flying, watching some excellent flying, good food and friendly faces beat a day in the office all the time!!!

Fantastic footage once more, Mr V.  There is another candidate there for my Dining Room wall!

A superb collection that really captures the atmosphere of a fantastic day, and the wonderful beauty of the Scottish West Coast and islands!

Great Pictures Berry, thanks for sharing. Looks like there was plenty of real aeroplanes there.  :-D

G-AOJR certainly must have had an interesting journey over from Belgium.
Ahhh Chippies.....

Utterly marvellous pictures. What a day out. We really should have hung around in 808 and come back in formation with you guys. The pics are stunning.

Hopefully the Islay airport open day will remain just that - an open day for the locals to see their airport as they don't normally. But the more flyers that get to see what a grand day out it is, the word'll spread and the busier it'll get.

Great to see everybody having a fine day out. Caught up with some old friends and met some new ones.

Berry, thanks for looking after the machinery and I hope you enjoyed the transit as much as we did. As usual, you caught some pretty images for us to treasure.

Duncan, a well flown first season and I hope you will join us again next year.

Chippie driver, I agree about the "open day" and I also hope it does not become a victim of it's own sucess!
