« on: Saturday September 03, 2005, 16:25:18 UTC »
Hiya folks, sorry but i have to admit it, my other half DOES NOT LIKE CHIPMUNKS!!!!!   , THE HORROR OF IT   .
Well, i have just spent the past 15 mins trying to explain to Rita whats so good about the chipmunk, i have tried to explained chapter and verse about its handling, the fact that its controls are so well harmonised, its aerobatics being a thing of beauty and not all rush, dash and blowing chunks like the pitts. and it just LOOKS SO RIGHT,
help me out here, PLEASE!!!.

Greg,

ps she is sooooo perfect in every other respect so finding a replacement who likes them ain't an option, she even likes landrovers for gawds sake  :?

Ah yes, I think I know her... except back then she was a he who we called Robert and who would tinker with tractors in his spare time.

Odd how things turn out....    :D

You know what to do don't ya... buy her a flight in one.... I know a couple of guys who do such flights and are very accommodating to the female species.

The sly old dogs...

I can sympathise with her when my hubby first got involved with the chippies he kept saying to me come on and I'll take you flying... But I always found an excuse like washing my hair or ironing... But he finally persuaded me and it is the best thing that happened!! The views you get are spectacular and it was awsome doing some sheep scaring although I was a little scared

But the one thing i will not let him do is aerobatics, as im not quite ready for that yet!

So tell your other half she doesn't know what she is missing and the good thing is if she really doesn't like it they can go back and land!!!

Hope you convince her

Pity you didn't live by me. You could have strapped her in our red chippie....told her it was a tandem seated Ferrari and that I was going to give it a blast down a wide singled lane motorway......and blimey if it started to fly at 70mph ....a miracle :D

OK, i think i'm almost understanding her on this - i've never actually been in a chippie (shock! horror!) and so dont really understand why you gentlemen and ladies are so obsessed (to me they just seem like cute looking little planes).

I have a feeling, its one of those things which you have to experience, in order to love it! therefore i'm willing to go for a flight with anyone that wishes to change my mind...:D

You definetley need to experience it because like you Taffy. I was never interested in them before I had my first flight in one!! Now I can see why these guys rave about them!!  Good luck with your mission to get someone to take you up.....

Hiya, thanks for the replies, i'll get Rita to have a looksee here later today. i agree about it being something you have to experience for yourself. when i first flew in a chipmunk i was 14 yrs old and it was at RAF Brawdy in south wales, we flew to RAF St Davids, i was wearing the standard RAF oxy mask/mic and a mae west and i was turning the chipmunk on its wingtip, looking down at the chipmunks shadow on the water, and the pilot talking me down onto short finals before he took control was awesome, then as we taxi'd in the other chipmunk buzzed the field - and us!!! it was an experience that will stay with me for the rest of my life. with luck next year i will be able to stump up the cash for both of us to have a flight, and having us both in the air at the same time sounds like a great idea so you know where i will be heading up to   , (this may be Rita's first flight too)  good luck with getting yourself a flight Taffy, you'll love it, i'm sure.

all the best

Well I have to say that every person that has flown with us for their first flight in a Chipmunk (some even their first flight ever!) has had the trademark DHC-1 issue smile on their face as they taxy back in!

All I will say is that it is either our good looks, charm, personality and charisma that does it, or it's just the sheer joy of flying in the Chipmunk!

I know what I would put MY money on...  :D  :laughing3:
