12 AEF

Hi, first post here, treat me gently :)

Prompted by its mention in another thread I though I'd post the following. I spent many a happy day as a Flight Staff Cadet at 12 AEF from '79 to '81 when Sqn Ldr J.R. "Jock" Ritchie AFC was The Boss. Lots of great memories. Fulfilled a long held desire from back then by having a share in G-APYG for a few years at White Waltham.

Anyway, the point of this is to post a few pictures taken back in the day...

Cracking pictures Mike, really bring a sense of feeling to them.  8-)

Hi,

Yup, the Devon lived there at the time. If I remember correctly it was known as "The Admiral's Barge" and used as a communications aircraft and VIP transport for Pitreavie and Rosyth.

Mike.

Hello Mike T,

What a joy to see your pics of the dispersal and hanger at RAF Turnhouse. I had three wonderful years with Edinburgh UAS in the mid 60s and piled up about 150 hours on Chipmunks. Fond memories indeed of 26/08.   Sqn Ldr Derek St.J Homer MVO., (ex Queens Flight) was our C.O. and Flt Lt. the Rt Hon. Angus Clydesdale, now the Duke of Hamilton, was one of or instructors.

In a three Chipmunk formation we were lining up for a steely-eyed run in and break and the controller had
to ask a BEA Vanguard flight to wait. Guess that wouldn't happen these days !!

I see a couple of Bulldogs in the backgound parked outside what would have been the UAS flight offices.

Wonderful days - many thanks for the memories.
