A tribute to a team of professionals - Perth 21Jun08

Caught Declan and another team member going through the routine for the Chipmunk display at Scone today and could not resist the impulse to take this photo, which is made up of a number of photographs sandwiched together. All rough and ready stuff.

Great show today. enjoyed all of them

Aha! The famed "walk through"!

It may look foolish (and I always feel vaguely self-concious doing it) but it's an essential part of the briefing for any formation/display work. It's a pity that it's not done more often.

Cheers,

Rod.

At one point they shouted something like "Visual" and I was able to see (and hear) the point in their display routine where a seemingly foolish act on the ground has a very serious purpose in the air.

Hmmm! Routine? Looks like a dance to me - perhaps "The Dashing White Sergeant" - och boys . . . "You're all just gorgeous boys"

Was actually the "Hokey-Cokey"....

"You put your left break in,  you put your right roll out..." :-D

The visual call is ultra important as Chipmunks seem to disappear against the normal UK, cloud laden sky when you are trying to look for them  If we don't get visual with each other, we cannot do the opposition manoeuvres as even at Chipmunks speeds, the closure rate is around 250 kts!

Great day and a nice shot of the "serious" side of display flying!

Cheers,

Anything to do with display flying is serious - especially something like this but . . . I look forward to seeing the '10 ship!' :-D
