Work on the repair of the rear fuselage is now almost complete.  Perhaps one of the more difficult tasks has been making two new bulkheads.

It was decided to remake the battery box.  The existing box had been repaired with stainless steel while the replacement faithfully follows the original design.

Note the block used for making the bulkhead laying on the bench.

By now everthing should be anodised, primed and rivetted together.

Yes David, you are probably right, it may have been more economical to import a part from the UK these days with a more favourable exchange  rate A$ compared to the British pound than used  to prevail.  Also the air freight rates seemed to have droped.

However:-

1)Sean had the battery box fabricated before we knew that he intended to replace it rather than repair.

2) He has a great deal of pride in his workmanship and I suspect that he wanted to look back on the finished unit with the satisfaction that it was built to all new standard.

3) In the scale of things, the battery box was a comparatively small additional job.

4) We are keen to see the project finished and manufacturing a new item was probably faster than searching around for a good second hand item.

Taking a cue from you David, can anyone supply a forward fin fairing?

Hopefully that is the last item we will have to source.

Seemingly a milestone has been reached in our project with the rivetting of the rebuilt rear fuselage to the front section.

Still a bit of work to go to complete rivetting but all the components have been fabricated.

This project continues to move ahead slowly. There is still quite a bit of nit picking  to do on the forward fuselage.
