Help in the USA
« on: Monday December 15, 2008, 06:50:43 UTC »
I feel very fortunate to finally find some kind of support for this airplane. Unfortunatly I feel this site pertains for the most part to the U.K., and I live in the states. I have a 1953 DHC-1B (N4407B) which I'm finding almost zero info on parts or maint. AD's. The one bright side of the aircraft is the engine is a Lycoming IO-540, but aside from that I'm in the dark trying to find parts. Does anybody have any thoughts on this, club info in the states, parts suppliers? Any help would be greatly appreciated. gspargen@hotmail.com

To be fair, I think this site covers pretty much the Chipmunk World, there are people here from as far way from the UK as the USA, Canada and Australia. There are even a few European contributors!  :-) You can usually get answers to specific questions. There are detailed diffrences between the Canadian built Chipmunks and the British and Portuguese built machines, but I think these are small enough for the same information to be used if applied intelligently. de Havilland Support in Duxford can provide the current technical news sheets, for the British built Chipmunk, on a subscription basis. see www.dhsupport.com .  For parts it depends on what parts you are looking for. I've had help, with parts, from as far away as its possible to get and still stay on the planet.  As far as clubs go, this site is far more useful than any Chipmunk club I am aware of.
regards
Nigel

New Year greetings .... as N 4407B is a Canadian built aircraft my good friend Bob Fassold should be able to help as he operates CF-RRI and currently CF-BXG.

His email address is: fassold@magma.ca

Hugh Shields also in Canada should know where spares are as he owns CF-CYE
hshields@sympatico.ca
