Chipmunk Heaven at Cambridge (20 September 2009) Large post!
« on: Tuesday September 22, 2009, 12:42:06 UTC »
Marshall's big Centenary event was held on Sunday and what an event it was! Plenty of aircraft in attendance, glorious weather and a free food and drink voucher. However, what made the event for me was the 20 Chipmunks on the ground, as well as about the same number in Tiger Moths (they even flew a Diamond-9 formation). Below is a record of the Chipmunks present. Unfortunately, due to work commitments, one Chipmunk slipped my attention so I photographed 'only' 19. What a great sight, it surely made my day anyway! Who needs a Vulcan, give me a Chipmunk any day

In no particular order:

The Army Air Corps Historic Flight Chipmunk present was WD325 '5':

G-APYG (ex WB619)

G-APLO (ex WB696)

WD286 (G-BBND)

WD363 '5' (G-BCIH)

WD390 '68' (G-BWNK)

WG350 (G-BPAL)

WG407 '67' (G-BWMX)

WK517 (G-ULAS)

WK577 (G-BCYM)

G-BBMT (ex WP831)

G-AMUF

WP971 (G-ATHD)

The all red WP903 (G-BCGC). Always wanted to photograph this one.

WP800 '2' (G-BCXN)

G-ALWB

WZ879 'X' (G-BWUT)

G-BCPU (ex WP973) in BA colours

1373 showing of the Portugese Air Force markings (G-CBJG)

And another one of 1373, but now with two Tigers and a Hurricane I

Sorry for the amount of pictures, but I think the Chippy deserves it! Many thanks to all for an excellent day out. Just a pity I had to work (or cue for food) for most of the day and therefore missing most of the departures.

Cheers, Berry

Very nice pictures of an interesting event, Berry. And even with sunshine! Sure this was in the UK?

Unfortunately I couldn't be there myself, but hope to join in the next time. I've surely missed something . . .

Do you think there would be any uptake on a Scotchipfest?

Dave,

Thanks for posting those and for all your help over the four days (and nights!). The first coverage I've seen on t'web of the days prior to Sunday's airshow.
Wasn't anyone awake at Duxford for the 'arrow' fly through?

Not a problem Stewart, it was a pleasure, only next time the food and drink is on me!!

Geoff Collins has taken some great shots during the event hopefully they will soon appear on his website. If you send me your e-mail address I'll send you some.

As for Duxford - you're right - were was everybody!! I'll give a few Duxford regulars some hassle and see if anybody got it.  :-)

I think you might be struggling there! But I am planning a little trip for G-APLO next year, if you know her history you might be able to work it out - but I need to see what the boss says first!
