Aileron Repair
« on: Friday October 02, 2009, 05:26:19 UTC »
After searching around and advertising over a period of several months within Australia for a port aileron, it was eventually  decided to repair a slightly bent aileron that we already had rather than import one from the UK.  Here it is with a new spar pinned in place.  A new trailing edge will be fitted later to eliminate the average looking repairs.  Beleive it or not the repair had reached this stage when suddenly a friend was cleaning out his shed and found a good one!

Note the pattern traced onto the hardboard, the extra length of formed spar, and the bundle of trailing edges.  The cost of material used to make these items is small so it is just as easy to form several as to do one off.

Rob - I have a couple of ailerons I am scrapping because of spar damage so if you need anything just say! I hasten to add that I am only scrapping them to stop them getting into the hands of people who think they can repair the spars!

I see that there has been a lot of interest in this repair process.  It has been a bit of an ongoing saga .  A jig was made using a good aileron tocheck that everything was in the correct alinment.
