Oil temperature guage earth connection
« on: Thursday November 12, 2009, 17:13:24 UTC »
On the back of the oil temerature guage on the instrument panel there are three wires which go to a three point conector block and a fourth wire which is a earth connection. It is also clearly shown with an earth symbol, on the wiring diagram. Can someone tell me where this wire is connected to the fuselage structure as it is not obvious to me. I suppose there is a conector on the end, fixed with a bolt somewhere.

The wire goes to a 4BA bolt, washer and nut assembly on the flat tray adjacent to the connector you describe (TB15) Nigel.

The wire comes direct from the terminal O3 and not from TB15.  The wiring diagram does not show this clearly but I think it then continues on to terminate at the main earth point near the radio rack.

I am sure this was a mod. but I can not find the reference anywhere.

This connection gives a lot of trouble and causes erratic oil temp readings when the connections get a bit old but are usually fixed by cleaning the earthing points.

Can't remember where the rear cockpit earth is located but suspect around the equivalent place in the rear.

Good luck!

Aha! Possibly this explains why I can "control" my oil temp merely by pushing/pulling on the panel - pushing in lowers the temperature, pulling out raises it....

Cheers Dick,

Rod.

That is the symptom exactly Rod.

I have been putting off doing mine since the last Groongal!

Now, with my engine in bits all over Borg's workshop, it is probably the time.
