Altimeter Adjustment
« on: Thursday February 02, 2012, 19:29:46 UTC »
Anyone adjusted an altimeter? One of ours is reading 150ft to high for the millibar setting ie its around 5 millibars out compared to the other 3 on aircraft in the hangar.

Im told that there is an adjusting screw on the front low down but you have to remove the altimeter from the instrument panel - is this correct before I spend ages attempting this!?

Your answer is in this thread

You don't have to remove the altimeter for the adjustment.   Just remove the two screws on either side of the adjustment knob, remove the small panel and the knob can be pulled back releasing the interconnect of the hands to the Kolsman window.

Wasnt quite like the link in the earlier post but was exactly as you described David - job done and thanks - ps you wouldnt happen to have one of those tiny brass screws that hold the plate on would you? I dropped one which promptly disapeared into the bowls of the aircraft :-(

Don't worry, you'll find it again after you've replaced it  :-D.    I bought a bunch of small BA screws off ebay last year.    Someone was selling them in the UK.   Even with shipping to the USA, it was inexpensive.    They're not aircraft grade fasteners but I don't think those tiny instrument screws are anything special.    For the aviation approved fasteners, I've been buying from LAS.
